Via delle Bocchette - Day 4 - Descent to Maria di Campiglio

For the descent from the Rifugio Brentai down to Maria di Campiglio we chose the most direct route, passing by the Rifugio Casinei and Hotel Valesinella.

When we started at the hut the route right away led through grass and patches of mountain pines. There we also saw a chamois, the first throughout the whole trip! It made us realize just how remote the last few days had felt, with nothing but rock around us all day. It was quite nice and refreshing to see something so vastly different today.

The trail itself was easy walking. There are two short bits near the Brentai Hut that have iron ropes as handrails for safety, but the trails were pretty wide even there. Soon after the route actually passes through a little cave.

After roughly 2km we reached the intersection leading to the Tuckett Hut. We continued on towards the Rifugio Casinei. On this section there was a lof oncoming traffic. Large groups of people traveling up the mountain.

As we descended, the trees grew larger and soon we found ourselves in the forest. Then we reached the Rifugio Casinei. We took a short look around, but since it was too early for lunch break we descided to move on. After the rifugio there was quite a bit of steep forest trail, and a lot of day hikers. It stayed that way until we reached the Hotel Vallesinella.

From there it's possible to take a shuttle into town, but we chose to walk the last few kilometers to the Grostè cable car station along the Sentiero dell'Orso. It's actually quite a nice route with a lot of beautiful views up into the mountains. We could even spot the Rifugio Brentai again from down there and marvel at the fact that we had spent our last three days in those unwelcoming rockfaces.
